Saturday, Sept. 24 ~ 10am-Noon ~ Rohrbach Library (Ground Floor CMC; Main Floor café area)
Bring the kidlets in your life to the library this Saturday morning for Rumpuspalooza, a Sendakian celebration designed to delight the little ones and the big ones, too.
This year’s KU Family Day on September 24 will include a visit by the formidable fellow at left whom you doubtless recognize from Where the Wild Things Are. S/he will be copping photo ops with carpetmunchers and helping direct everyone to the many fun and bookish events happening throughout the library that morning.
Beloved children’s librarian Roseanne Perkins from Kutztown’s public library will be on hand along with some of her KU students (of the Alpha Beta Alpha library science organization) with crafts, storytelling, and videos featuring some of Maurice Sendak’s works. That’s on the library’s Ground Floor downstairs, amidst RL’s amazing collection of children’s books.
Upstairs near the library’s café, the wonderful In a Nutshell exhibit about Sendak’s life and influences continues, alongside the always-splendid Scholastic Book Fair. Who doesn’t love those? Sweetening the deal is the knowledge that any purchases you happen to make will benefit the aforementioned ABA student organization (to say nothing of the tykes and tweens who’ll get to read the books and play with the other stuff you buy).
