Philadelphia Activist and Author Dies

The following information comes from the KU Daily Brief (posted by Robert Wickstrom, KU’s GLBTQ Resource Center graduate assistant):

Barbara Gittings, Philadelphia native and renowned gay rights activist, died last Sunday at the age of 75 after a long fight with breast cancer. Gittings co-authored several works and helped to define the genre of Gay/Lesbian literature as a respected library science. She was also instrumental in the establishment of GLBT civil rights groups including Daughters of Bilitis and the American Library Association’s Gay Task Force. For more information on Gittings and her legacy, stop by KU’s GLBTQ Resource Center.
