The following information comes from the KU Daily Brief (posted by Robert Wickstrom, KU’s GLBTQ Resource Center graduate assistant):
Barbara Gittings, Philadelphia native and renowned gay rights activist, died last Sunday at the age of 75 after a long fight with breast cancer. Gittings co-authored several works and helped to define the genre of Gay/Lesbian literature as a respected library science. She was also instrumental in the establishment of GLBT civil rights groups including Daughters of Bilitis and the American Library Association’s Gay Task Force.
