New Technology in the AV Center

LOOK, up on the shelf, it’s an audio book on tape. No, it’s an audio book on CD. NO, NO, it is a portable digital AUDIO BOOK!

Indeed, the current flavor of audio book recently acquired by the Library’s AV Center is the portable digital audio book. The portable digital much resembles an iPod. Each unit comes complete with the narration of a book on an iPod-like playback device. Similar to the “books on tape” concept started over twenty years ago, portable digital books will usually contain an unabridged reading of an original piece of text. Also, similar to the tape, this audio version may contain a dramatization of the book with a complete cast or it may be a more simple narration, sometimes performed by the author.

Units can be checked out to Kutztown University students for a period of one week and longer periods to faculty. Community patrons are welcome to enjoy the digital audio books within the AV Center.
