As a school boy in India, Dr. Keshav Gupta read Mahatma Gandhi’s autobiography, My Experiments with the Truth. Afterward, many of the myths about Gandhi promoted in the media and in the books he read were erased, Gandhi and his work were better understood and held in esteem. It was a life-changing experience for the young Gupta.
Join Dr. Gupta Wednesday April 26, 2006 from 11:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. as he shares the Gandhi autobiography from the perspective of its considerable personal impact. Exchange what you have read about the man and the culture. To help prepare for the discussion, photocopied sets of a few chapters selected by Dr. Gupta are available at the circulation desk of the library.
This dialogue in the library’s Voices & Choices Center Gallery (2nd floor) is a collaboration between the VCC and the Office of Public Engagement and is the final Reading Exchange for the semester. An open invitation is extended to all interested in learning more about Gandhi, Hindu culture, and India in general.
Curriculum Materials Center Increases Textbook Holdings
Published April 16, 2006 Uncategorized 2 CommentsThe Curriculum Materials Center has received (via donations or orders) many new textbooks over the past few months. Reps from various publishers (Harcourt, Scott Foresman, McGraw Hill, Holt, and Prentice Hall) have found it profitable to donate new editions of some or all of their textbook series for our College of Education majors to use and review. This gives their future clientel a chance to get to know their products, and it gives our budget a HUGE relief. To buy the materials that we received via donations, we would have had to spend well over $40,000! We also have purchased a variety of textbooks for the collection to support various education courses.
We hope to have all of these new materials processed and on the shelves by the Fall 2006 semester, so make sure you stop by in the fall to see them!
