Database Updates for Wired MD and ABI/INFORM

Library Adds New Health and Medical Database
Wired MD features consumer health and patient education videos that are developed by physicians and educators throughout the country. These videos present information regarding the most common health conditions, diagnoses, procedures, and treatments you may encounter. In order to view these videos, you need only select a topic and choose the appropriate video player and bandwidth based on your computer and Internet settings. A click of the mouse opens a 5-10 minute video that you can then review. Depending on the display format you choose, you may be able to pause, rewind and replay sections or the entire video. On-campus access to this database is generously provided through the Access Pennsylvania Power Library Program.

You can access Wired MD via the hyperlink above or by going to the Library’s databases page at http://www.kutztown.edu/library/er/alphalist.asp

ABI/INFORM Upgraded
The library has upgraded our subscription to ABI/INFORM. We now have ABI/INFORM Complete. This upgrade includes the addition of two supplemental databases including ABI Dateline and ABI Trade and Industry. Dateline provides local and regional business news coverage of large corporations, privately held companies, local start-ups, executive profiles, marketing, finance, and industry news. Trade and Industry provides full text to more than 700 industry and trade publications.

Microsoft Office Suite Added to Second Floor Computers

Announcing Microsoft Office on the second floor public-use computers! The library has upgraded all the computers on the second floor of the library with the Microsoft Office suite of products including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. This change was done in response to student demand.

Please note: Because of the University’s licensing agreement with Microsoft these computer stations will no longer be open to community users. These users should will need to use the computers located behind the Reference desk. Thank you for your cooperation.

Practice Exams Available through Library Database

In the italicized text below, Meg Arnette, from the library’s Learning Technologies Center, shares her views and a handout on the Learning Express Library database that is available through Rohrbach Library.

NOTE: When you go to the database, you must register as a “new user”, selecting your own username and password. Upon returning to the site, you can use that information as a “retuning user” to follow up and continue using your individual user profile.

On my quest for information about Graduate Schools, I discovered that I had to take certain entrance exams to qualify for all of the programs that interested me. That’s when I stumbled across Learning Express Library via the Rohrbach Library website.

Learning Express Library contains over 300 online practice tests designed to prepare students and adult learners for academic or licensing tests that they must pass in order to succeed in their particular work field.

This database offers great features that help in the test-taking process, including interactive test-preparation and practice, practice exercises, instant scoring and feedback.

The range of tests that are offered is incredible. There are preparatory exams for college, such as the SAT and ACT, as well as the LSAT, GRE and GMAT, which aid in the process of getting into the graduate school of your choice. Other test areas include Praxis exams, Advanced Placement, adult basic skills, law enforcement, military, citizenship, cosmetology and much, much more.

The database also offers a Job & Career Help Center, which helps users choose a career and build a resume, and also gives practical advice for job success. In short, this database is comprehensive, self-paced and a great resource for those who are looking to further their education or career.
